9th December 2014 newsletter

In this edition:

  • Christmas looms
  • AGM report

On Dec 18th, we are showing one of the great musicals, ON THE TOWN, starring Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra. And as usual we invite you to celebrate the season before and after the screening. We will provide food, soft drink and wine glasses, but would like you to bring your own wine, as we do not have a drinks licence. During the course of the evening, you’ll be asked to make a contribution, so that we can cover the cost of everything non-alcoholic. If you would like to bring any baked goods, eg mince pies, Stollen etc, that would be great, but please tell us by Dec 16th – before we go shopping.

We have found this arrangement works well. These are the timings for the evening as a whole:

7.00 pm doors open
7.10 pm pre-film drink and nibbles

7.45 pm screening of ON THE TOWN

9.25 pm further ingestion

Members’ guests welcome as ever.

The 2014/15 Committee was elected as follows

Chair – Martin Johnson
Secretary – Dave Thomas
Treasurer – Jeffrey Karoly
Membership Sec. – Barry Reeves
Deputy Treasurer – Penny Clover
Other Members – Noeleen Farrell, Mike Bloom, Chris Holt, Geoff Bailey, Andy Norton

We pick up the threads of 2014 – 2015 on Thursday January 8th with a screening of QUEEN CHRISTINA, starring the magnificent Greta Garbo.

Finally, the committee would like to thank all members for, well, being members and giving your support to the society. We think the first half of the season has been very successful, with good attendances and films that have been enjoyed and found stimulating. We hope you continue coming along to our screenings and bringing your friends and acquaintances as guests.

Best wishes to all.
