1 Feb 18: screening of Oscar–nominated shorts

There are lots of different categories of Oscar, of course, but one of the most interesting is that for best short animation. We shall be screening the five nominees on this date and we hope plenty of members and guests will turn up for this. You will be invited to vote for your favourite by show of hands and also to complete a reaction slip in the time-honoured way. The actual Oscar awards will be made on Sunday February 28th.

The event is additional to the full programme of screenings detailed in the annual brochure; hence there will be an admission charge. Members, their personal guests, students and anyone who receives this newsletter will be asked for £4, provided they sign-up in advance*. (Payment on the night, please. We won’t chase up any no-shows as the sign-up is to give us an idea of likely numbers, nothing else). One-week members will be asked for £7.

We will probably put out tables and chairs “cabaret style”. Basic beverages etc will be available; and by all means bring a bottle of something more interesting if you wish.

* You can put your name on the sign-up sheets at the Feb 4 and 11 screenings; or you can email us on info@abfilms.org.uk link: http://oscar.go.com/nominees

2 Apr 23: Clubs and societies day – any volunteers?

Most years we get the opportunity to present ourselves to reasonably large numbers of local people interested to learn about what they can do in Abingdon. It’s not unusual for us to end the day with a list of about 40 requests to be sent the programme for the following season, once printed.

Would you like to spend an hour or two at our stand, telling anyone interested about ABCD? If so, please tell us at a film evening or send us an email.

Here’s another situation vacant. We don’t have great strength in depth when it comes to taking money etc before screenings. Perhaps two or three members would be willing to do this job once every two or three weeks by arrangement. Full training given, as they say.
