Showing the influence of Lang and Hitchcock, this is a tale of obsessive love leading to reckless violence. Lame news seller, Kenaoui, played by the director, falls in love with the voluptuous femme fatale Hanouma who is in a relationship with a station porter and contrives to win her affections.
